The pass over Mt. Konseizan was fucking brutal, largely because it was the third pass of the day. I could see it coming by the guardrails of the switchbacks towering over me, and I had thought there would be another opportunity to buy food after lake Chuzenji, so I was getting pretty hungry. About 1/3 of the way up the pass the headwind was so strong I could barely continue, so I decided to stop and cook some instant noodles, which was the only food I had.
It was getting to be quite cold up there, and of course because of the strong winds I had a hell of a time lighting my camp stove. After about 5 minutes I finally managed to get it burning, but then as I was going to pour water into my frying pan I knocked the bottle over and put the stove out ;_;
Immediately afterwards I got a nosebleed from the elevation change, so I was sitting on the side of the road eating dry instant noodles and trying to stop my nose from bleeding, it was definitely one of the most miserable moments of the trip
