>>1303024nyc transit is both amazing and utter shit. i live here, and use subways and buses frequently, though i ride my bike 80% of the time.
the buses succ diqq always, but they are needed - this is proven by how overcrowded they are. part of why the buses are shite and take too long is the state of para/medical transit. people who are disabled/self-disabled and use any mobility apparatus have no option except to shit up the buses, making every stop last an eternity - the bus has to kneel, flip down the ramp, wait for fatquisha in her hoveround™ to board, the driver has to leave his seat, push people out of priority seating, flip that seat up, lock it, then secure fatquisha to a floor anchor, then get back into the driver's seat, flip the ramp back in, then others may board. all this assuming everyone behaves themselves and no one starts shit about having to move. obviously i have no issue with those who are actually disabled and haven't just eaten themselves into immobility.
the above-ground subway lines are comfy af, and a genuine pleasure to ride off peak. nothing like cruising above the traffic, seeing for miles, and crossing a big comfy bridge. agreed that any peak time travel is a literal hell. pic related shows comfy parts in blue.
