Why is /n/ so nice to newfags?
So i was looking at hybrids with a friend a while ago. Who ended up buying a road bike. Anyway
I test rode quite a few.
Including a Marin Muirwood.
It was demonstrably clear to both of us, just how much better the ride quality was, compared to the lower end major offerings which invariably had an aluminium or a hitensile frame & fork.
Some more expensive ones with carbon forks were comparable in terms of ride feel but otherwise it was quite clearly superior.
Now that's a chromoly steel hybrid bike, which is a pretty niche product. But Marin is a major brand. It's not hard to find.
And the idea of riding a chromoly steel bike, basically is the >rigid 90s mtb meme. That's this board's bike culture. A Marin Muirwood even literally was a rigid 90s mtb in the 90s and they proudly say this is the modern equivalent, which is true. So a Marin Muirwood is the low-effort way of having a /n/-esque bike.
I have recommended this bike on /n/ to people asking for buying advice, so many times. Explained why. Encouraged them to go ride one. I give people on /n/ buying advice quite often, and have been really glad that many people have bought things i've recommended, especially used bikes, rigid 90s mtbs, chromoly 80s/90s road bikes, and come back and been happy with them. But i've literally never, not once, seen anyone come back and say they bought, or even test rode, a marin muirwood.
Why is that? Are the people asking about cheap-ish hybrids beyond helping? Of course everyone has personal taste and all bikes are bikes, but why bother giving a subset of people advice if it's literally never taken, if they have no interest in it? I like helping people buy bikes and fix their bikes, it's rewarding, and i like the idea of more people riding and enjoying bikes. But this subset of entry level hybrid advice posters, i'm through with. This is a point at which I think this board should gatekeep. Fair?
