I had a mountain bike set up for a long time with a SRAM trigger shifter for the rear mech, and the XTR hydraulic brake dual-control lever for the front derailleur. >>1138216It didn't help that Shimano introduced the Dual Control MTB levers at the same time as the fuckin' "Rapid Rise" rear derailleurs that everyone hated. The wholehearted rejection of both of those technologies is what gave SRAM a huge foot in the door in the early 2000s, and scared Shimano away from major innovation for almost a decade.
