The entire crux of your argument here isn't based on whether if the zoning change or really any change to the community I live in is good or not for the community, but on a fatalistic assumption that it's futile to advocate for their existence entirely ever.
The absurd part is you're trying to speak for a lower-middle class community on the NEC I've lived in all my life as if your NIMBYism is a universal constant, when zoning has already been changed around here from time to time.
For example, the location of an old disused school in the middle of one of the neighborhood sections was rezoned to build a set of affordable apartments not too long ago.
