>>1920547>>1920553am i missing out by running 130mm BCD cranks with a 50T narrow-wide chainring instead of direct mount cranks on my fixie? the $420.69 state taco bell klunker comes with alloy square taper cranks with a steel direct mount chainring which seems like a cost saving measure more than anything so i'm not worried about missing out on performance compared to that. but those white industries cranks on the sklar super something cost like $350 for the cranks alone without chainring or bottom bracket. there's maybe 100-200 grams of weight savings which is not worth spending hundreds of dollars on for me but i'd like to know what i'm missing out on and there's cheaper direct mount stuff available on aliexpress. i'm not convinced that a direct mount chainring is going to be as stiff as 130mm or 144mm BCD crank arms, at least the hollowed out white industries or cannondale hollowgram style which would surely put the emphasis on weight savings rather than stiffness. for instance i read a comment from someone who works at rotor and he said the 30mm aluminium spindles aren't stiffer than the 24mm steel spindles, they just make them a bit lighter (maybe 50 grams i don't remember) so the direct mount stuff would at best probably be equal in stiffness but probably significantly less stiffer than a beefy 130mm or 144mm BCD crank set up with the right type of narrow-wide or wide track chainring.
