the newer BR-5800 has stronger pivots, its pretty much a direct mount calliper that is attached to an adapter plate allowing use with older style frames
however maximum tire clearance is 28 mm (as measured) so for a wider tire vee brakes or wide profile cantilevers would be a better choice.
callipers are available for wide tires, but they tend to be a bit bulky and flexy.
