Right now they're mostly extending it deeper into the suburbs and surrounding cities, or adding more track for more express services.
There's commuter rail as far north as Barrie, south west as Niagara falls, and east as Oshawa, with plans to extend that line to Bowmanville, and create a new line to Peterborough.
The stations within the city limits are being better integrated into new rapid transit plans (see Caledonia and Mount Dennis stations in OP pic). They're also aiming to electrify some of the lines and have 15min service.
