>>1085020Why would that matter at all kek, first Rolex watches were 200$, today the most expensive ones are 100k$, and that's just slapping on more expensive materials with pretty much no performance improvement.
Refuting the original argument - the mountain bikes did not peak in 90s, in any way. They were shit, and buying them today is more retarded than ever. Any mall-tier bike with lowest shimano groupset will outperform them. Today you can you can get both cheap, well performing bikes, as well as state of the art ones, and those are expensive because we are using better materials than ever (inb4 carbon is cheap - yes, but production of an item and testing it, both for safety and all other qualities like aero and stiffness is expensive, then there is titanium, a lot of very specific alloys etc.), and we care about the science behind the bike performance more than ever, and that takes resources as well as very educated people. All those qualities trickle down to cheap bikes and the improvement every year is actually significant, but it's your choice whether you want to pay a few grand for the newest model or not.
