After a warm Thursday with a lot of melting many of the side streets have set up very icy. The bad kind of ice too. When ice is smooth and clear, it is very slick and hard. Even with studs you have to be extra cautious.
When stopping to take a picture I put my foot down and slid for about 10 feet to a stop. I usually find that safer that coming to a complete stop before putting a foot down. A couple failed attempts to get going again with the rear wheel spinning out because I didn't have weight on it. More and more I'm liking the idea of getting dropper posts for my winter bikes so I can stop while seated keeping weight on the rear wheel to get started again.
