>>1236822Planning theory sucks. They talk about how planning used to be terrible decades ago because it was all rational planning where the planner is the expert and now planners need to be the facilitator for the community. I got into planning because I wanted to be the expert not so I can listen to some pie-in-the-sky zoomers or NIMBYS.
On topic, are you taking a bachelors? The "first two years" makes it seem longer than a traditional master's degree. We had most planning theory mashed into an Intro course in my master's program and now every core class want's to bring it up again for the first few weeks.
Sorry I don't have a good answer on how to survive it. We kept getting pushed to decide what kind of planning philosophy we personally have as if that will ever be applicable in the workplace. For how awful the classes have been my work experience has been completely the opposite and I couldn't be happier going into work each day. I use GIS everyday so that is a very important skill to have.
