There's a large stretch of unused tram track in Amsterdam. It was laid down when the road was renewed in 1985 as a possible future connection between two lines, but never actually connected to any. There are still plans to eventually activate the tracks, but none so far have been implemented. Here's a picture, the catenary was never built.
