I bought a pair of clipless a few years back once and didn't enjoy my experience. Sure, theres advantages to having power during the full crank cycle but with platforms you could adjust pedal position on the fly to reduce discomfort while still providing a power stroke of 12 to 8/9 o'clock position with the right technique. I like being able to switch being a toe biker to mid foot biker whenever I feel like without having to adjust the cleats. Also being able to kick the ground swiftly to prevent a fall if you're like me doing reckless bmx/mtb shit on the road bike is very helpful not to mention fun as fuck. There's a few studies done that tries to quantify the difference between the two and it's either minimal or inconclusive
There's also the big advantage of wearing whatever stylin and comfy shoes you want. That and being able to hop on and off the bike whenever is another big plus. Pic is the pedals I use on a road bike, people judge because it looks out of place but I don't care cause they're cheap, got great grip, and they'd shutup once I drop them
