Most joy comes from using the right bike for the right purpose
If you plan on riding recreationally through denser areas, a roadbike or fixie is the fastest bike. The funnest bike. No doubt. Light, very efficient and responsive, great at cornering, and just sheer fun when the agility is required.
If you need a bike to go shopping, nothing beats an easy-mounting step through beater singlespeed with fat marathon plus tires, fenders, and a rack with the largest panniers you can find. Weight of the bicycle? Who gives a shit.
Want to ride off-road recreationally? A good suspension mountainbike is the only option.
Want to ride extremely long distances, multi day tours without pain, discomfort and less energy requirements? A midracer recumbent is the best bike. Ride all day and still feel energy in the evening.
Want to ride extremely FAST, extremely far, comfortable, dry, and there are a lot of rolling hills? A velomobile is the best bike.
You can go on for 15 other bikes.
There's a bike for every purpose. Not enjoying cycling means you are riding the wrong bike for the wrong purpose. This is the case for many people as it was for me. Get the right tool for the job and you'll have the most joy.
This is better than that bla, is all wrong. Apples and oranges .
