Wow so much mad in this thread about 1x
If you ride and often and by that I mean pushing hard on the way down and just getting to the top in whatever way possible, enduro style, then 1x is a god send. even with 11 speed and a properly sized front chainring you can make it up anything you need to and slowly make it to the top.
I've converted 3 bikes to 1x now, 2 ten speeds and 1 8 speed. I do it because a narrow wide chain ring with a clutched rear mech have fantastic chain retention and really gnarly stuff gets a small chain guide. Compare that to having to setup finicky front deraileurs adn having the potential for the chain to drop from your big ring to your small ring on a rough descent and I'll take 1x any day of the week.
If I could afford a Di2 setup I would probably go 2x in a heartbeat. more range, better cadence and automatic adjustment. but when you do all your own work on your bike, there are things that just aren't worth it. I'd rather spend the time I would adjusting a front deraileur on riding or rebuilding my forks.
All this is personal preferance but on the technical side of things, frames are better now that 1x has taken off. They are stiffer, more playful and can fit bigger tyres because of 1x. Those are benefits worth having over better cadence.
