for buying groceries you're either going to want a front rack or a rear rack or both, and so you need a bike with rack eyelets
also, since you're going to be doing some utility stuff with it, i'd recommend putting fenders on there, they're nice to have for $20-ish
i'd recommend a 90s rigid mtb, they're solid as all fuck, cheap, easy to maintain and usually have plenty of rack mounts
an old steel roadbike will serve you well too, as long as you can mount a rack to it, and they're fun to ride
or, if you want to go the autistic route, a english 3 speed can be pretty nice to cruise around on, not as practical though
here's a sizing guide i like, it isn't really detailed enough for modern road bikes and all, but for old rigids or an OTS its fine
