So I'd like to vote Chicago as very close #2, especially since the 312 RiverRun project has been approved and to be completed by the end of this year. That is an 18 feet high river bridge trail that aims to add 1000 more feet of uninterrupted bike path into an interrupted section at the current southern end of the North Shore Trail.
This gives me hope in believing I might see a continuous length North Branch River Trail that connects to the Riverwalk to the Lakefront Trail (which splits north and south on the Lakefront) on the southern end and a split to the North Shore Trail and North Branch Trail on the northern end, within my lifetime. A complete trail like so would be beyond impressive. It would mean a trail that extends from downtown Chicago all the way up to the Botanic Gardens 20 miles north, which connects to Skokie Valley Trail then to Robert McClory Trail all the way up to Wisconsin. On the southern end, the infrastructure on the Lakefront Path already leads to the Indiana border.
