I've also decided today that I'm a fan of woodgas tractors, which was a conversion particularly common in WW2 Germany with limited access to fossil fuels and fuel shortages in place to the point where even some shunting locomotives were built to run on woodgas, as well as countless trucks and tractors, the latter of which were still in use up to 20 years later but eventually died out seemingly because their road privileges were tied to using only approved wood cuttings whose suppliers went out of business one by one over the years.
