the length and shape of the cable housing is important as its the only thing holding the cable in place
if the housing is too long and has too great of a curve it will flex about as the brake cable is put under load
keep curves around 90 to 120 degrees of interior angle, and free of kinks
the cable wants to straiten out and will try to bend the housing that way
where the cable housing clips into a cable stop or sits inside of a barrel adjuster there is a metal cap that keeps the cable end from being damaged
the caps and cable outer are under a lot of load so its vital to check these areas for damage
its also a good spot to apply oil so that the cable movement can drag oil into the ends of the housing to keep water and rust out
