In size medium, I see the wheelbase difference is about 8cm, which is quite large but the biggest difference I see between the two is the HT angles and HTA-STA ratio. What that translates to is the agro XC will still saddle more upright than the almost mtb gravel. Even an agro XC will be slack at handling compared to the almost mtb gravel due to the HT angle difference. An interesting note is that both bikes meet the same upper limit of human size for their frames but the MTB can better fit a far wider group of people due to the much shorter ST length.
So yeah, they're different enough IMO to warrant being in different categories but we're getting real close to that middle ground bike with an identity crisis. What I'm interested in is comparing the geometry of the Grzl to a 90s rigid mtb, I bet they would be very, very close.
