As for why they hate climbing, i think it mainly boils down to fitness. A good deal of offroad climbs are quite steep and adding bigger rolling resistance to that (compared to road) plus weight of an average trail bike/rider adds up to an unpleasant experience, especially if they dont care about improving their fitness and are only in it for downhill stuff. It‘s probably the reason why ebikes are getting more popular.
