Don’t put any weight on your back if you can avoid it. One ride with a loaded bike and a backpack and you’ll learn your lesson. A rack is an easy way to get a lot of capacity quickly, and the hardest is bringing large volume items like a sleeping bag, tent, and enough water. Frame packs often take up your bottle cages mounting points so you may end up needing to throw bottles in a pack or use a hydration bladder. Don’t get too bent out of shape for weight distribution because the ride won’t be a race. It’s pretty hard to fuck the weight so bad it’s unrideable.
