I recently got my old Zaskar a pair of new wheels, hoping to lighten the bike up little. I calculated that the Mavic 217 rims at ~415g and a M750 XT hub at 380g should not total much more than 1000g with nipples and spokes. But to my surprise, while the front wheel seems to be just as expected around 770g, the rear wheel weighs exactly 1300g (without cassette). Where could this weight come from? The spokes are definitely thicker in the rear wheel, but can they really weigh 500 grams with the nipples?
