>>1150028Melbourne's public transport certainly isn't that bad. Where specifically are you moving to? Then we could give you more details.
Trains are decent, with level crossings being removed and a new tunnel being built under the city to provide extra capacity. They are single deckers with 2/3 doors a side per carriage, with plenty of seating because some trips could be over an our to the end of each line. You can expect trains probably every 5-10 minutes in peak. They are usually pretty full, however.
Trams are alright, though most of the lines aren't separated from cars, so they often slow down to a crawl in traffic. If you're getting off one at a roadside stop, take care for any cars who disobey the road rules and don't stop for you. I've almost been taken out by shitty drivers before.
I can't say much for buses because I avoid them as much as possible, but they are definitely the worst out of the three main transport modes. Off peak they might come half-hourly or hourly depending how far out of the city you are. Smartbuses are typically on 10 minute frequencies though.
We have hourly train (and some tram) services all night long on weekends and Fridays, although weekend timetables are still a tad lacking, often with long breaks between trains. There are PSOs (basically transport police) at every train station after 6pm, but the network is pretty safe anyway.
