That's why people favour cars, even when owning and maintaining one costs more than they can sensibly afford, they'll go into debt to own a car. And that's not down to what they played with as kids.
Speaking as a lifelong cyclist who loves and has always owned at least one. Currently I own several, ride every day and haven't owned a car since 2020. Fortunately I'm in a position where I don't need a car for day to day stuff anymore. When I do need a car I hire one.
