>>1662667>>1662725That model I picked out isn't much different in price compared to a similarly size retail model (295/350 for the H-10s, 280 for a Broadway Limited Mikado), and I have no problem painting since I've been doing model kits for a long time now. I'd have to drop another $40 or so if I wanted to throw a DCC decoder in once I get a DCC setup but that's a road I won't mind going down later on.
The thing with the brass market is that in some cases that's going to be the only source of certain prototypes in N scale (ie: those H-10s, NYC Niagaras, B&O streamlined Pacifics, Camelbacks, DD-1s, etc). Sure 3D printing is coming along well, but there's no guarantee someone on Shapeways will make the locomotive you want.
