NSW has a high loading gauge owing to its double decker electric trains; Victoria will have a wide one due to its broad gauge tracks, but is the Queensland Rail loading gauge sufficient? I guess it's not really an important question of compatibility, since the XPT already has its standard gauge and dual gauge tracks, though I suppose it comes down to whether there should be a coastal, rather than inland, route along the east coast and whether that route would enter the state via Gold Coast, Logan & Brisbane. Looking at this picture of an IMU I'm not convinced that there's enough space for a wide standard gauge train.
