This really applies to everyone since we all will be using them in some way or another.
Where should airports be built? Should we be ok with airports being in cities? I was once (for a brief period of time) a NIMBY because an airport's final approach was right above where I lived, and the opening of a second runway would have made the noise levels much higher. Costs to build are higher and city airports will have limited operation hours for noise abatement. Runways could be short due to limited land, and take off and landing slots could be limited.
Or should we build them in the middle of nowhere, where no one lives and the land is cheap, so multiple terminals, aprons and runways can be built, not only that but runways in all directions for all wind directions and runways which are 4000m long?
Or third option, should we take from the Japanese, reclaim land in the sea close to, but not too close to cities, build 4000m long runways, have approaches over sea where no NIMBYs are, but with limited apron, terminal and other space because reclaimed land is expensive as fuck?
