Got into it last year. Picked up a Siren 17' for $2500, touched it up a bit, and hit the lakes. Whole boat weighs like 700lbs, swing keel, 6" of draft with the keel up so you can run it right onto the beach if you want. Could sleep 2 in principle, but that's not happening. Thinking of throwing another halyard on it for a flag for now, and maybe eventually a spinnaker if I feel really ambitious.
Never took any courses, just internet and YouTube guides. It's fairly intuitive for just casual day sailing, which is all I'm interested in. No racing with rich boomers for me.
