You will never regret it. 100 miles is easy. You could do that in two days.
50 miles a day sounds like a lot to most people, but when you have 12 hours to ride that much it's nothing. Start strong with 25, take a long lunch and nap, Bust out 10, rest, bust out 10, rest, and finish strong.
Then the next day after a bit of rest with breakfast you can put in 35 miles. You only have 15 miles left for the end of your day. The time is what helps you.
If you need help with planning a route or anything I can help. Gearwise, just a basic bike and preferably a solid rack. Try not to put a lot of weight in a backpack. It starts to hurt after a while.
Depending on the area you might not need much camping gear. A tent is really only nice to keep bugs out. I prefer to sleep on park picnic tables. They are elevated, covered, and easy to clean. Food is pretty much the same as usual.
