>>1683803Couple 6" I-beams, good for sea state 9.
>>1683810I don't have much to compare it to, and it's been strictly lake sailing so there weren't particularly big waves, but I've taken it in 35kph turbulent winds and it wasn't terrible. It was on my 3rd time sailing, so it was kind of nerve-wracking to deal with constant changes in wind direction and sudden gusts, but I imagine that's the case for most boats. The freeboard at the stern is really short so occasionally choppy water likes to come into the cockpit (and drain out through the drain hole), so you get a bit wet compared to a MacGregor or something. I did learn on that day that the Siren gets pretty strong weather helm if sailed just with the main up. I was constantly getting stuck in irons before I decided to get the jib going, and just mitigate the retarded wind by making the main less efficient.
The think I like about the boat is that it's (theoretically) unsinkable, as it has foam cores running through the internal benches. So no matter how badly you fuck up, you're good unless the whole hull comes apart.
Pic related, this was when I just bought it. I've since changed the paint scheme and refinished everything, fabbed some mast supports for the trailer, and put bigger wheels on it. If I had the time and space, I'd like to dismantle the whole thing and refinish it, because the interior could use some work. Turns out gelcoat isn't designed to last 50 years.
