IMHO from the high speed trains the only design that deserves attention is plane looking train.
Maybe they should borrow their ideas from aviation. Put a heli or fighter cockpit on there if you cant come up with your own. Those somehow don't look like generic meh.
But realistically it's probably on purpose, to soothe elderly and those afraid of distinctive stuff into this indistinct washing machine and increase sales.
