fixies are underrated at least for my specific scenario with very short rides on smooth roads with minimal elevation changes and with slow traffic with 30-40 km/h speed limits
a nice fixie by itself is overkill by normal people's standards where i live
domestic casual bikes are pretty much BSOs with heavy hi-ten steel frames and inefficient internal gear hubs with large gaps between gears
on a track bike it's hilariously easy to keep up even with cars, you rarely and briefly get up to 40 km/h because of congestion and stopping for pedestrians and drunk/elderly drivers etc
advanced road cyclists typically have a preferred cadence of around 90 rpm or so, 80 rpm is said to be more efficient for cruising at a decent speed, scientists say you can get down to around 60 rpm for optimal efficiency at lower watts and when climbing, up to around 120 rpm for sprinting, and you can train your body to improve your performance at a wider range of cadences, track cyclists can do way more than 120 rpm
