News from Switzerland:
The Rheineck-Walzenhausen rack railway will be renewed with a driverless railcar.
This line was under threat of closure due to low profitability, but it was decided to still keep it due to the importance it has for the small town of Walzenhausen. Instead it was decided to look into reducing operating cost. The new vehicle will enter service in 2026
The current sole railcar operating on this short line is from 1958, so 64 years old, making it the oldest rail vehicle in regular, non-heritage use in Switzerland.
