>>1789715Well, looking at the actual comic itself...there's the bigger issues and the smaller issues. A private company might not run everything better (sorry libertarians) and the same goes for nationalizing. Furthermore, with nationalizing you run the huge risk of some bureaucrat deciding that some major cost-cutting will have to be done without any regard for the use of railroads. That's bad.
Specifically addressing stuff
>congested portsa lot of that depends on the ships as we've seen recently and other issues not related to RR operations
>underpaid laborwon't be solved with making them government workers
>redundant tracksmost redundant tracks are already gone unless you want to see MORE lines abandoned (who wants that?)
>...for workersagain, won't be solved by making everyone government workers
>...for efficiencyThe major consolidation of railroad companies has been for efficiency purposes, so if you think that the 7 major rail lines or whatever have fucked themselves in the name of efficiency imagine the shit that would get worse with one
>...for tourismall marketing, nothing to do with nationalization either way
>...for modernitynationalizing won't help the rail lines "modernize", and the hopeless cost overruns of California's HSR have set back any talk of additional government-led HSR for years
