It's a more natural position for your wrists. Ergon grips are great though, cheaper upgrade than replacing your handlebars
For back and ass pain you're gonna want to start looking into bike fit and posture. It's a black hole. More art than science. Try different handlebars, stems, saddle fore/aft settings, and different saddles. Eventually, if you're paying attention and experimenting, you'll figure out what works for you
