I already tried with a modern 10 speed mtb SRAM I had laying around with the intention of simply swapping the jockey wheel, but it didn't go through the guards. That would definitely be an optimal solution if it worked tho. It uses friction shifters so the number of gears itself shouldn't be a problem.
>>1309313Good idea too. They're cheap and I could replace a couple more things, possibly everything but the wheels, bar and saddle. It is repainted so I don't even know the exact model (probably a small maker, I think Torrot).
The mech is something like this only less rusty. The spring lost 90% of its tension. It is closed with rivets and so old I didn't bother opening it up, but maybe it is worth a try. Maybe the spring itself isn't too different from modern ones.
