Roads are produced to withstand the weight of trucks (higher capital cost) and the overwhelming majority of road wear is from trucks (higher maintenance cost), yet roads are partly or mostly funded from general taxation and the funding they recieve from actual users (gas tax etc.) mostly comes from cars.
Freight rail doesn't get these gibs. How can it compete with free infrastructure?
