But fuel cells for Hydrogen can also be repurposed industrially for other forms of LNG.
The problem is that LNG is very varied compared to diesel and gasoline, meaning any useful research might not be good for commercial LNG solutions.
I think Hydrogen is a completely dead end, since its currently capped at 3x electrity per 1x hydrogen, or slightly better with other conversion options. But its also too explosive, too hard to store, and 10% leak means it will blow up.
The weight of the tanks are insane, due the same leak -> explosion problem.

But trees used to be unbreakable, and then wild bacteria happened, so they no longer turn into oil and coal freely.
The true horror of plastic won't appear until bacteria break them down, and the insane amount of commercial structures that need unbreakable pipes will need to install glass/steel/concrete again.
