Alright guys I think I asked this a month or two ago.
What is the BEST way to fix a derailleur hanger on a steel frame with a slightly stripped thread (pic related)? My derailleur simply won't screw in there anymore. It used to, but I must have slightly stripped it when I was in a hurry.
I am aware of a number of options:
1) Ignore the thread and drill it out even wider, then put in a "dropout saver". I would rather not butcher my frame like this, and also the dropout saver can rub against your chain when you're on the lowest sprocket, unless you use a spacer or something.
2) Try and clear out the thread by gently putting a normal 10mm x 1mm tap in there (the kind that would have been used to tap the thread in the first place). This would be ideal but I'm not sure if it will actually work?
3) Solder new metal into the hole and then re-tap it. This is probably costly though.
Either way I might just call a local bike mechanic and see what they suggest and how much they charge. I don't know what the fuck else I should do.
Any ideas? Thanks if so.
