i bought a Trek Soho S two years ago. only thing I did on it was replace the tires.

im looking for info on what I should/need to do with concerning maintenance and wearable parts.
I dont know how long a chain or gears re supposed to last or how to figure out wear status.
I also dont have any special bike tools.
so tell me, what are components that I need to adjust, and or replace, and their life span, and what special tools I should own, and a good brand.
