There's a video where a pro cyclist and a mailman who delivered by bicycle had a short uphill race, but the pro had to ride a mail delivery bike, while the mailman had a pro-level bike. The pro just barely lost, which is impressive given that the bike he was given was a heavy bastard with an upright seating position and weird gearing. Geometry and fit matter far more than weight and material.
