>>1399105>both extremesThe "extremes" you're talking about exist almost entirely in their heads. The mere sight of cycling-specific gloves or a cycling cap will send these people off on a tirade about how "this is not a race".
The purpose of unracer culture is to make cycling seem nonthreatening to people from a cager culture that considers the act of riding a bike inherently weird and therefore aggressive (keep in mind in America they think that eating a fucking taco is white genocide).
So you get your middle aged potbellied office worker who thinks "I should finally get in shape this year" and they make a New Years resolution to buy a bike. But not a RACING bike (i.e., literally anything that to a common idiot looks "fast"). Oops nah not that bike either .Not that bike. Not that bike. UGH why can't someone make a good old fashioned antique PRACTICAL bike? Oh I can get it used? Ugh no used has used poor cooties and I am NOT poor. Oh hey this looks good. Rivendell? Sounds old timey. Hey look this guy hates cycling too, just like a regular guy!
Basically unracer = planet fitness but for bikes.
