Bicycles really are an edge case where weight and compexity prohibit automatic lubrication and need to shift makes encased chains unfeasible on most bikes, and power and heat output are low enough that wax is a viable low-maintenance option. Another one is encased chain on a singlespeed/planetary bike, but bike industry isn't ready for that kind of pill yet.
