He rejected all kinds of modern technology- carbon, aero brake levers, water bottles.

But adopted threadless immediately as superior. This is really not to say that quill stems are bad. Nice old bikes with them are well worth using and almost never practical to convert, but given the choice, like on a new bike or doing some fancy fork swap, threadless is better for sure.

even brandt embraced threadless.
he never went past 26mm bars, 1" steerers, non-aero brakes, downtube shifters, steel frames, cage pedals, drinking from mountain streams instead of water bottles, but he embraced threadless.

I personally have like a dozen quill stems on a shelf and most of my bikes have quill stems and i LIKE quill stems but quill stems fucking suck dude.
Threadless is just better, for every reason except aesthetics.
