Just did spin training for the first time working toward my CFI rating. I knew the steps to recovery all the way back from my private, but actually having to follow the steps while you’re in the spin condition is a completely different thing. It’s super hard to get into a spin in the airplane I train in but truthfully before today I would’ve probably died if I actually found myself in a spin low to the ground.
I’m a little disappointed that I was able to get all the way to CPL without ever having experienced it, should spin recovery at least be demonstrated to private pilots? I know new CFIs can be uncomfortable doing it and have killed themselves demonstrating it which is why it isn’t required, but it’s freaky that a commercially rated pilot can have no idea how they would escape a stall in a real life scenario.
