What are your bottom gears for touring? I've got 22/28 now, considering building a new rear wheel partially for the benefit of going to a higher range cassette. I had planned on doing a two week long primarily unpaved tour this year, in the Cascades and Sierra foothills with that and I don't think that would have been low enough with 30-40 pounds of luggage.
