In the context of urban planning specifically, yes, airports are unpopular, because they do use a tremendous amount of land, and urban planning is a practice specifically concerned with deriving maximum social and economic benefit from land. Even then I don't think you're going to find many people with an interest in urban planning or urbanism in general who think we should do away with airports and air travel altogether.
As a test, maybe make a thread about Meig's Field and see how many of the replies call the mayor a criminal for bulldozing it vs. people who are super jazzed about having a swamp and concert venue in place of a runway.
