2) In most developed countries you get student loans which cover the cost of uni, and in the case of my country (the UK), these loans are more like a graduate tax - you only repay it when you're earning above a certain amount. So you don't have to worry about repo men coming and taking away your sofa. I think in Germany they're even more generous and they just straight up pay for your uni tuition.
