The ECML could've had 140mph running in the 90s but it's been 30 years and they've yet to remove the level crossings and implement in-cab signalling.
The end-to-end journey for the WCML is quicker, the trains require more innovative technology, and the scenery is better.
There is no comparison, the WCML absolutely mogs the ECML.
